The music of Undercurrent Quartet offers a wide variety of different moods. Melodies from the heart tell a story while the band moves through musical landscapes using different timbre and contrasts. Adventures in musical styles create cinematic music in dreamy colours, dark gloomy thick grooves or sharp edgy political commentary.
The four musicians explore the engaging and sometimes compelling compositions by taking much freedom of expression and by creating strong interplay and fierce improvisations. The unusual instrumentation of trumpet, clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, guitar and drums offers the listener a fresh sound. The use of musical space is a strongpoint of the group.

Pedro Ivo Ferreira is a Brazilian bassist, composer and educator whose vision blends his Brazilian roots with a deep curiosity for improvisation and contemporary music. He studied double bass with Sizão Machado, before continuing his studies in Paris and Amsterdam, where he deepened his artistic vision under the guidance of Marc Buronfosse, Ernst Glerum and Frans van der Hoeven.
Now based in the Netherlands, Pedro is an active presence in the European jazz and improvised music scenes. He performs with projects such as Orè, Nefertiti Quartet, Federico Calcagno Octet and Cacha Mundinho. With the Nefertiti Quartet, he recorded four albums — Danses Futuristes (2015), Morse Code (2018), Frameless (2022), and Live in Paris (2023) — performing widely across Europe. The group was selected for Jazz Migration #5 and won the Euro Radio Jazz Competition in Copenhagen in 2019.
As a bandleader, Pedro explores the intersection of structure and spontaneity. With his ensemble Orè, he merges Brazilian rhythms with free improvisation and contemporary music. Their third album, Matter Antimatter (2025), reflects this ongoing dialogue between clarity and abstraction, form and formlessness. He also leads Noneto Desconcertante, a project dedicated to his own arrangements and compositions, and a tribute to Guinga.

Marcos Baggiani is a versatile drummer with firm roots in improvised music. Over the years he has been working with o.a. Sylvie Courvoisier, David Kweksilber, John Edwards, Ernst Reijseger, Han Bennink, Achim Kaufmann.
